Sample Data: Explore, Clear, and Restore
Every new workspace ships pre-loaded with realistic sample contacts, deals, tasks, quotes, and invoices so you can explore RadiusOS before adding any of your own data. It works like a switch: turn it off any time, turn it back on if you change your mind, or delete it for good once your own data is in.
What sample data includes
When you create a workspace, RadiusOS seeds a realistic data set tailored to the template you picked:
- Contacts and companies - 6 contacts and 4 companies in different pipeline stages
- Activities - emails, calls, and notes attached to those contacts
- Tasks - a mix of upcoming, overdue, and completed work
- Pipeline stages - contacts already populated across your stages so the Kanban view has shape on day one
- Quotes and invoices - sample quotes in draft/sent/accepted states and invoices in sent/paid states (templates with billing enabled)
- Automations and price book items - one sample automation showing how triggers wire to actions, plus price book entries that feed quotes
The sample data is template-specific. A Real Estate workspace gets sample listings and clients; a Field Service workspace gets sample jobs and customers; an SMB Sales workspace gets sample deals and contacts. The vocabulary matches your workflow.
The sample data banner
Sample data is a switch: it's either on or off, and the banner at the top of every page tells you which:

- Start over deletes the current example records and lays down a fresh set. Useful once you've dragged the examples around and want a clean slate.
- Turn off removes every example record from your workspace. Anything you added yourself is untouched.
- × (close) hides the message on this browser only. Another browser or device will see it again.
Restoring sample data after clearing
With the switch off, the banner tells you so and offers the way back:

- Turn on lays the same example records back down. Anything you added yourself stays untouched.
- Delete for good removes the examples and stops this workspace from ever loading them again. Pick this once your own data is in and you're done practising; it can't be undone.
- × (close) hides the message for the whole workspace without deleting anything, so you can still turn sample data on later from Settings.
Both the × and Delete for good apply to the whole workspace, not just you. On a Team plan, every member sees the result. The difference: × only hides the message, while Delete for good also blocks the switch from being turned on again.
Telling sample data apart from real data
Every seeded record carries a small Sample label next to its name, with a beaker icon matching the one on the banner. You will see it on a contact's own page, in your contact and company lists, on pipeline cards, on tasks, and in global search results.
Sample records are otherwise identical to real ones. They sit in the same lists, move through the same stages, accept the same edits, and appear in the same reports, because the point of them is to show you exactly how your own data will look and behave. The label changes nothing about that; it only answers “is this one real?”, which the banner cannot, since a banner speaks about the whole workspace and can be dismissed.
So the label is deliberately quiet. It is a small tag rather than a warning, because sample data is a feature working the way it should, and because a loud badge on every row would get in the way of the realism it is there to protect.
To pull sample records apart in bulk, filter on the `isSample` field via the API or the MCP server. In practice most people either keep sample data while learning, or clear it once their real data is loaded.
Turning sample data off is a hard delete of those rows. There's no undo, but Turn on lays down a fresh set of the same examples - it won't recover edits you made to the originals. Delete for good is the one that closes the door: after it, the switch is gone for this workspace.
When to clear vs. when to keep
